Gotta Kill 'Em All....

Steelbreaker Victory

In our unrelenting quest to be extremely awesome, Pallies once again braved the treacherous halls of Ulduar this past Tuesday.  Our goal for this week was to start knocking out some hard mode achievements, and start knocking out some hard mode achievements we did.  Following is a brief summary of each hard mode boss attempted:

Flame Leviathan

We started by defeating Flame Leviathan with the Tower of Frost active.  It wasn't terribly difficult, although we did wipe once and consequently had no idea where to go when we re-entered the instance.

XT-002 Deconstructor

LOL.

Assembly of Iron

After one single, soul-crushing attempt at Deconstructor's hard mode, we decided to shift our focus toward a hard mode achievement that was actually, you know, possible.  Our new target?  The Assembly of Iron.  It took us a couple hours to get it down (which probably would have been less if certain people knew how to hit the dispel button), but we finally managed to triumph over the forces of Iron, thus bringing us one step closer to glory.  Blizzard rewarded our hard work with several glorious minutes of lore, during which we were captivated by Brann Bronzebeard's UNHOLY VOICE-ACTING TALENT.

A hard-earned victory, indeed!

You forgot to mention that Fil jizzed himself after having a loregasm from that terrible voice acting. Also wtb realistic XT hardmode! I'm Rambone and I smell good because I wear old spice swagger!

At this pace, Algalon will be dead next week!

XT002 is somewhat doable. Go with one tank, DK if you can afford it, and save lust for execute range. Still, Hodir and Thorim are easier.

We don't care about xt002 Vyk! What we've really all been wondering is how the heck you do Vezax hard mode.
Vykromond   |2009-05-08 06:39:57
Vezax hard isn't too difficult. Run 3 healers, everyone avoids Shadow Crash and Mark of the Faceless as much as possible, save Lust for the Animus. Discipline Priests are by far the best healer for it, but Shamans aren't bad either.

BTW sweet website design Onia

Thanks! But really, making it work was very much a team effort. And by team, I mean Mog.

You use a caster stacked group for vezax? We don't really have that option without using alts. Also why does this comment thing add random spaces once you post?!
Vykromond   |2009-05-10 00:54:26
Vezax favors casters, yeah. So does Hodir (very heavily, and especially mages). Freya and Thorim favour melee to some extent. Hard modes generally encourage some form of stacking for optimal performance unfortunately.

If you're melee heavy, you might be able to make it work by going to 4 healers and hoping to just heal through the additional 20-30 seconds of Profound Darkness.

I think I get it now. Ox and I were going through the healing math a few weeks ago and didn't think it was feasible. We were running under the assumption that no saronite vapors could be killed during the entire fight. I read a post on wowhead and it sounds like the Animus only uses up 3 vapors but requires all 8 to be up in order to spawn. I would assume you could use vapors after the Animus spawns though, is this accurate?

Also the random spaces are really annoying.
Ram   |2009-05-10 02:40:44
When the animus spawns is it something that needs to be tanked or does it just sit there and spam that spell? Also I assume Vezax keeps attacking but stops casting his flames or does he just stay there and you need to tank animus? Also I guess hodir would favor casters but we came pretty close not even trying and using 3 healers, 3minutes seems pretty easy on 10man. Thanks for the protips! ra and dom spa c e s
Vykromond   |2009-05-10 02:52:22
Yeah the 3 minute timer really isn't too bad on Hodir. We got 2:28 using a balanced ranged/melee group a few weeks ago on 10 man. If the fight were tighter tuned though you'd definitely want to bring mages. When Nihilum had to cheat to beat the 20 version of 25 man, they brought 8 mages. Also http://wowwebstats.com/ozlzx4aoacbpo?s=590380-625879 says it all really.

Vezax hardmode notes:
1) The stuff about saronite vapours is not true as far as I know unless it was changed since the last time I did the fight (about a week ago). The Animus absorbs all 8 vapours and no more vapours spawn for the rest of the fight. This means no vapour usage at all period for any healers for the entire fight.
2) The Animus melees for about 12-15k physical damage on 25-man, I forget how much it does on 10-man.
3) Vezax will melee and cast all of his spells, including Searing Flames and Surge of Darkness, during the Animus phase. Actually he might not cast searing flames on 10-man (I don't remember), bu...

I guess there's a character limit. That last bit was supposed to be "during the Animus phase. Actually, he might not cast searing flames on 10-man. I'm not sure and I don't really remember if he did or not; he definitely does in 25s though."

See, this is exactly why we need guest forums.
